I was able to try out some of the new fall/holiday items on Boudin’s new menu this past weekend, and let me tell you they did not disappoint. In fact, they were pretty dang amazing, and I was totally willing to blow my diet to keep eating these yummies all night long. Let me tell you about the new items starting with maybe my FAVORITE-
The Roasted Butternut Squash and Kale Salad:
romaine lettuce, Tuscan kale, roasted butternut squash, red quinoa, dried cranberries, feta cheese, honey mustard dressing.
I LOVE butternut squash, but I’ve pretty much always cooked it the same way, baked in the oven tossed with a bit of olive oil, garlic, salt and pepper. Don’t get me wrong, my plain and simple way of cooking the squash is great. But man, you have to try Boudin’s new salad. I would’ve never thought to put butternut squash in a salad. And the squash tossed alongside all the other yummy ingredients and sweet, smooth honey mustard dressing is just delightful. A light but super satisfying dish. Vegetarian. Amazing. This new salad pairs PERFECTLY with a chardonnay (Kendall Jackson Chardonnay is and has been one of my favorites for a very long time, the price is great, and is a wonderful compliment to this salad- beautifully integrated tropical flavors such as pineapple, mango and papaya with citrus notes that explode in your mouth. These flavors delicately intertwine with aromas of vanilla and honey to create depth and balance throughout)
Ham N’ Brie on Rosemary Focaccia:
applewood smoked ham, Brie, arugula, cranberry dijon, rosemary focaccia.
This brand new sandwich is everything I picture when I think about the holidays. The ham is applewood smoked, and you can tell it is, even before you take a bite of it. It smells amazing, the rosemary focaccia adds a lovely herb-y taste and aroma, and the cranberry dijon is to die for. I could seriously eat it by the spoonful. And hello, Brie cheese??? On a sandwich?? YES, PLEASE! Like I said, this is the holidays (to me) all wrapped up into one tasty sandwich. YUM! This sandwich goes wonderful with a pino noir. A pino noir in my opinion is a lighter red, very easy to drink and I love the La Crema pino noir with this sandwich- this wine offers up a lively cherry pie aroma that mingles with alluring cocoa, allspice and blackteas notes. Flavors of pomegranate combine with red plum and orange zest to deliver a well-balanced blend. Of course, it also goes well with a buttery chardonnay (as mentioned above).
roast beef, provolone cheese, caramelized onions, roasted red peppers, garlic buttered sourdough baguette.
If you are a philly cheesesteak sandwich lover, then you MUST try this new sourdough philly offered by Boudin. It takes a philly cheesesteak to the next level and beyond with all the yummy, quality ingredients Boudin includes. Roasted red peppers, and the caramelized onions make this sandwich so savory yet so decadent. It’s pretty amazing. Of course with the juicy roast beef, this sandwich pairs lovely with a red wine (La Crema pino noir).
I had the privilege to meet with the executive chef of Boudin, and creator of all these new wonderful menu items- Chef Alan Skversky. From the first bite of his culinary creations you can taste the love and passion he has for food and all the wonderful ingredients he uses.
All of these new menu items will be available at Boudin starting on October 21st, 2015.
