One of my favorite shoe brands has teamed up with Autism Speaks to help spread awareness and raise money for autism research. Autism Research is a cause that is near and dear to me because my cousin is autistic and I remember how challenging things were for him and his family. Despite his challenges, my cousin JA Tan is now an emerging artist. He graduated with an art degree from Emily Carr University of Art and Design in Canada. You can see his work at www.artofjatan.com
Etnies, the first skateboarder-owned and run action sports footwear and apparel brand, and Autism Speaks, North America’s largest autism science and advocacy organization, have teamed up and created co-branded kid’s RVM and Fader shoes, which will be available in stores for spring 2011, in an effort to increase awareness and raise funds for autism research.
According to studies autism prevalence has risen 600 percent in the last two decades and currently, one in every 110 American children has an autism spectrum disorder.
A portion of the proceeds of the etnies x Autism Speaks Fader and RVM kid’s shoes sold, with a minimum of $10,000 per year, will be donated to Autism Speaks.
