The new mommy uniform according to a celebrity stylist

This weekend I got the chance to meet celebrity stylist Sam Saboura at a meet and greet/makeover event at Coldwater Creek in Seal Beach. Okay, so Coldwater Creek isn’t top of mind when shopping for me but when Sam started making over store shoppers, I watched with admiration. Many of the women I met at the event were over 70 and they looked amazing. It wasn’t the clothes they were wearing but their youthful spirit. But it took Sam’s style suggestions to TRANSFORM them – with a little color here and an accessory there – the change was instant.

I didn’t get a makeover myself but I did manage to ask Sam for some style tips for mommies. (Here’s a video – which I so painstakingly edited myself – woot! Let me know what you think.)

    1. Thanks for commenting. I loved your blog too – wish I could taste some of your cooking…and outdoor lunch? Fresh basil? I am SO there.

    1. Yes Sam was great. I wish I had a personal stylist to dress me up everyday too. BTW, I enjoy your writing – and look forward to seeing your before and after pix for the Pretty Project.

  1. I think his style tips apply to most women – whether moms or not.

I would add that there’s nothing like a shoe addiction, if you want to add some sex appeal, regardless of the curves of any sort. A hot little heel works wonders… And then there’s the French woman’s finest tip – for any age or stage – a drop of perfume on the pulse points. Stir up a little discomfort for when the “dad” gets home.

    1. I think I’ve forgotten how to wear heels myself – being in SoCal – I’m either in flip flops or uggs or barefoot! I know I should wear real shoes at some point.

  2. nice job on the video! 🙂

i know leggings are “back”, but i’m having a hard time wanting to go there. i guess it’s from growing up in the 80’s – next thing you know i’ll be teasing my bangs and shellacking them with aquanet. my mommy uniform is generally comfy jeans (not too tight, not too baggy) and a fitted T or sweater/cardigan for cooler weather.

  3. Awesome video! I love leggings with a long sweater and interesting scarf, and 3/4″ sleeves. My fav outfit this weekend…skinny jeans (“find curves” like leggings, but don’t tell too much of the story), a fitted-but-not-tight T, and a swingy cardigan with 3/4″ sleeves and hit’s right about the hip…finished with cute brown boots (I still like a little heel) and I was fabulous, lol!

  4. Thanks for posting this. I co-authored Sam’s book with him, and he truly is the master of style. Have you seen his HSN line called STYLED by Sam Saboura? He has a fabulous faux leather jacket at an amazing price point. There’s a link on my WordPress blog:

  5. Hi!. Thanks a bunch for the blog. I’ve been digging around looking some info up for shool, but i think i’m getting lost!. Yahoo lead me here – good for you i guess! Keep up the good work. I will be coming back over here in a few days to see if there is any more info.

  6. There’s an awesome online service called Tog+Porter ( ( that I think you would like. It’s an online personal styling service where you meet with a stylist via skype. How awesome is that?! You don’t even have to leave your house. The stylist sends you a box of clothes that she buys just for you. You keep what you like and send back what you don’t.
