#CosmetiCareMoms Get Comfortable in Your Own Skin: Anti-Aging Tips

Sometimes it feels like cheating. My Asian genes make me look younger than I really am. My dark complexion gives me an eternal tan. But when I look in the mirror, I KNOW how old I really am. The skin that seems to lack moisture; the tiny lines on my face; the grey hairs peaking out at the roots are tell-tale signs of how old I really am. I know that youthful glow is fading – at least physically, and I kick myself for not taking better care of myself in my twenties.

Of course, by the time I hit my 30s, I pretty much knew the routine – cleans, tone, moisturize – and drink lots of water to hydrate skin. I never thought of myself as someone who’d need any external help like from an aesthetician or gasp, a med spa. I always thought – hey you know, it is what it is, and at one point, even considered growing out my grey hair. But the truth is, I wasn’t in love with the face that looked back at me in the mirror. It was then that I resolved to take better care of myself. The secret is in taking preventive care – even before those lines appear.

As a CosmetiCare mom, I have been given the opportunity to try out some non-surgical non-invasive treatments that can help you restore some of that youthful glow. And in a series of posts, I will be sharing my experience with you. For now, however, here are some helpful tips to get you started.

Don’t go it alone. You know those celebrities like the Kardashians or J.Lo? They have a team behind them to look fabulous! They have estheticians, cosmetic surgeons etc to help them fight-anti aging and other skincare problems. You too should build a trusting relationship with anti-aging experts including certified nurses, estheticians – perhaps event a plastic surgeon– who can render expert, up-to-the-minute advice and create a skin regime just for you. Only trust your skin to a medspa managed and staffed by these professionals.

Botox won’t let you down. If you go with a professional medspa, you can rest assured, you won’t get that scary “Frozen Face” you may associate with getting botox. The truth is, you can start to use Botox as a preventative wrinkle-smoothing measure before the “11s,” the moderate-to-severe frown lines between the eyebrows, form. You could postpone that destined date with wrinkles.

The lift without the snip. If you are starting to have saggy cheeks and frowns, there is something you can do for that. Voluma is an injection that adds volume and lift to your cheeks. It has the ability to enhance contour and create a more youthful profile without needing to take a drastic, invasive step like implant surgery.

Plump it up. Young, healthy skin is resilient and plump because of the natural existence of a hydrating substance called hyaluronic acid (HA). As you get older, the HA level in your skin decreases. Less HA is the culprit for facial wrinkles and folds – those parentheses lines around your nose and mouth – and that’s no laughing matter. Dermal fillers are the medspas’ version of HA. Products, such as the smooth gel filler JUVÉDERM, even out wrinkles around the mouth and nose. One treatment produces natural-looking results that last up to a year .

No ordinary light. Orange County boasts an average of 278 consultatively sunny days a year. We love soaking up that sunshine – until we see the results, including sun damage, freckles and lesions. Medspas use another kind of light to combat the effects of sunlight. Laser resurfacing removes layers of skin cells rather than the damaged ones only, and can reduce the appearance of scars, minimize deep wrinkles and even out skin tone. Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses light pulses that target darker pigmentation in the skin, breaking up discoloration and leaving lighter areas of skin untouched. IPL also is used to fade freckles and lesions. Which one is right for you? Schedule a consultation with a medspa to find out.
