How I Got That Sassoon Style

As any busy mom can tell you, good hair days are sometimes hard to come by. Too often we just end up pulling our hair back in a ponytail and calling it a day. We are sometimes lucky to even WASH our hair. Come on, you know it, and I know it. A blow dry? Well, that’s a dream!

Personally, I’ve always felt that the saying about “your hair being your crowning glory” is the truth. So I make an effort. Okay, sometimes. But I will say that with a good cut and color, it isn’t hard to achieve a “Good Hair Day.”

I recently visited the Vidal Sassoon Salon in South Coast Plaza to interview Creative Director Edward Tedeschi and Salon Director Adriana Harrison. They both worked on my hair while we did the interviews and it was super fun.

Adriana, who was doing my color, gave some savvy hair tips for Suburban Mamas. “For pregnant moms, let your natural texture come out. Keep color closer to your natural hair color or do a single process color because you don’t know when you’ll be back for a hair appointment,” she said, speaking from experience, being a mom herself. She adds, “Bangs are great too, as they help frame your face.” “Especially on those days when all you want to do it is put your hair up in a ponytail!” I add.

Finally, Adriana said: “We moms tend to think of ourselves last but we need to make time to take care of ourselves too. Take time to go to the salon – it’s valuable “me time” that’s not just about hair but will make you feel good too.”

That’s me with Vidal Sassoon South Coast Plaza Creative Director Edward Tedeschi and South Coast Plaza Salon Director Adriana Harrison.

I ended up sitting on the chair for a few hours. The crew at Vidal Sassoon kept the good conversations and cappuccinos flowing so it didn’t feel that long really. And with long hair and both a cut and color, I blocked out the time.  I really enjoyed speaking with Edward, he of the flowing Jared Leto-like locks and Adriana. We talked about our kids, and hair, and what we were passionate about etc.

Sassoon Style

And here I am – before and after. What do you think of my Sassoon Style?

If you are short on time, and still want to go about your day with Sassoon Style, then you’ll love their new BLOW and STYLE MENU. More than a quick “blow bar fix,” Sassoon’s expertly trained team offers blow-drying and styling services designed to either subtly enhance or totally transform the look of the hair. The blow dry menu ranges from the straight and sleek of the “Signature Sassoon”, the VIP gloss of the “Voluminous” and the relaxed and easy elegance of the “Disheveled.” There is also the “Beach Wave,” a head of natural, tousled waves; if a more defined curl is preferred, there’s the “Curly Wave.” And for those special occasions, you can have them do one of these trendy styles: The undone fishtail “Braid,” the “Sleek Pony” or “Dressed Wave.”
