Commenting on the announcement, Lylle Breier, Senior Vice President, Worldwide Special Events for Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, said, “There is no better way to experience ‘Frankenweenie,’ Tim Burton’s latest masterpiece, than the El Capitan Theatre. In addition to all the wonderful things we’re doing at the theatre for ‘Frankenweenie,’ such as our ‘Spark-tacular’ lighting and effects curtain show and a display of drawings and props from the making of the movie, we will also have interactive displays from the Discovery Science Center, who have created a Science Fair entitled ‘Sparking an Interest in Science’ in conjunction with ‘Frankenweenie’ and our special engagement here at the El Capitan.”

This summer, Discovery Science Center collaborated with the famous El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood to host a ‘Frankenweenie’ Science Fair in conjunction with the October 5th release of Disney’s “Frankenweenie.” Students in grade 5 – 12 were invited to submit a science project that displayed experimentally based research, illustrated scientific methodology or demonstrated a science or engineering concept based on themes from the movie “Frankenweenie.”

Six finalists topped score charts with accuracy of details, explanation of project through display, oral presentation and visual creativity. Finalists’ project topics included Energy from the Dead (Compost), Reducing Aquifer Depletion Through Increased Recycled Water Consumption, Rube Goldberg “Franken”weenie” Roaster, Special Effects Slime and more. All six projects will be on display at the El Capitan Theatre from October 5 to November 1, 2012.
